McKenzie Woods. One of my favorite things to do in the fall is drive the McKenzie Pass Highway in Oregon to experience the bright autumn vine maple lighting up the dark and dense fir forests. The day I took this photo was overcast with intermittent showers, perfect for moody, balanced and glowing deep forest light. It was a challenge to find an organized and balanced composition that worked within all the visual clutter. For reference, the color in the McKenzie Pass Highway area is usually best in the second half of October. Info: Canon 5D MKIII, single exposure, 4 seconds, f/16, 24mm, ISO 100, polarizer. Developing adjustments included basic color balance and contrast work, targeted tone and color adjustments using luminosity masks and also dodging/burning type adjustments using the Luminosity Painting technique.
