Last year I took a solo trip to the southwest and my first stop was Zion NP. As photographed as the narrows are, to explore this area on your own is a truly magical experience. On my first tip up the narrows I found this spot but didn't catch the light right. The next day I went in again and was lucky enough to run into Ben Horne. He was kind enough to direct me to some great spots and got me there for the best light. In this case we were walking upstream and he just smiled and told me that I should wait here for about 15 minutes as he continued up the canyon. He was spot on because over the next 15 minutes I watched as the light crept into the canyon and lit up the towering walls.
