I've been dreaming a lot of Glacier Park lately and missing it since I moved away from Montana. I'm very much looking forward to a full month in the park next August. It's been a dream of mine. Imagining what I could capture in a months time boggles my mind. I know the world is a big place and I have so much to discover, but sometimes places just feel like home and are hard to leave. I really can't explain my connection and love affair with this park that began in 2008. Sometimes I don't need to know the why and simply celebrate what is. I made this image during winter in 2013. I've had one other image "The Calm" published from this trip that I made on the same morning down the shore of Lake McDonald. The conditions were very nice during this trip. The water level was very low which revealed all the beautiful rocks I often refer to as "Mountain Jewels". A lot of you are familiar with my most popular image called Mountain Jewels made in 2012. I remember losing my camera bag in the shore fog on this morning and being spooked by unusual sightings of bears and a wandering mountain lion. A big cloud just sat on the the lake until the sun rose over the ridge and started to burn it away. My most favorite possible lake conditions would be, a slow reveal of nearby mountains in a morning fog, with diffused light. I really struggled in the field with this comp. No matter how I turned I couldn't get the the lines of the foreground to point to the mountain. To the right, cut off the little opening leading into the larger body of water. To the left, pointed out of the frame. That said, I think the reflecting highlights in the water in the mid-ground help to draw the eye back to the mountain after traveling through the foreground. Enjoy. Lake McDonald, Glacier National Park, MT
